John Nixon Letter

Nixon was prominent Revolutionary Era patriot who signed the non-importation agreement in response to the Stamp Act of 1765, was a member of Pennsylvania's first Committe of Correspondence, served as a Colonel under Washington at the Battle of Princeton and was with Washington at Valley Forge. He would late go on to help organize the Bank of Pennsylvania, and became president of the Bank of North America, the first national bank. He was on Pennsylvania's Committee of Safety, and, on July 8, 1776, he was the first person to pubically read aloud the Declaration of Independence in front of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. He owned land in Southampton, Montgomery, and Peters Townships.
