October 2015 CJAB Meeting Summary

The Franklin County Criminal Justice Advisory Board met on October 22, 2015 at noon in the 3rd Floor Jury Assembly Room at the Courthouse.

The committee is in the process of drafting a 2016 - 2019 CJAB Strategic Plan. Updated with new data, trends, and priorities, this document will be a guiding resource for the next three years of collaborative planning.

The Jail Opioid Treatment (JOT) Program is a new project funded by a one-year grant from PCCD. It will allow for substance-dependent inmates to receive Vivitrol, a drug used in the treatment of substance abuse, beginning prior to release. The program also assists in connecting eligible inmates to medical providers after release and recovery support specialists. JOT will benefit both the individual and the community with outcomes such as reduced drug use and recidivism.

District Attorney, Matt Fogal, gave a presentation titled, “Public Confidence in Franklin County’s Criminal Justice System,” reinforcing the concept that the focus of all areas of criminal justice must be on people, not systems.
