Closing of Areas Surrounding Franklin Farm Lane Fish Hatchery
Chambersburg, PA - Franklin County property on Franklin Farm Lane near and around the trout hatchery stream has experienced an increase in the number of wild ducks and geese. These increased numbers are due to individuals feeding these birds. The bird population has grown to a point where there is the concern of viruses, bacteria, Avian Flu and the welfare of the public, the birds and the hatchery fish.
In order to address these concerns the areas and parking lots around the fish hatchery on the east and west sides of Franklin Farm Lane will be temporarily closed to all persons and the public and feeding of all ducks and geese will be prohibited. Notification signs will be posted and barricades will be placed to identify the restricted areas. In addition to restricting these areas, we will install a sound system that is showing success in reducing the number of birds at another location.
Closure of the restricted area will take place on Thursday, September 15. The date for reopening of the area has not been determined at this time and will be given consideration based on successful control measures and results.
