December 2017 Employee of the Month

The Franklin County Commissioners on behalf of the STAR Committee (Special Thanks And Recognition) proudly present the Employee of the Month award to Mr. Randy Clendening. Randy Clendening works in the Franklin County Jail as a full time Correctional Officer. He has been employed with the County since July of 2002. The selection for the December 2017 Employee of the Month was determined by the STAR Committee based on the numerous votes Randy received. There were a total of 12 nominations. The STAR nomination form asks what recent event or occurrence made you select Randy and the answers include: Over the course of the past few months, Officer Clendening has taken the initiative to ask if he could conduct trainings on the Third Shift. He was approached by a nurse to provide a refresher course on the new medical back boards the Jail recently received. Since Mr. Clendening is an EMT at the Shippensburg Fire Department, he is well-trained in its use. To accomplish this task, it took several nights of having groups of 4 or 5 staff come to the Medical Department for training. This was strictly on a volunteer basis for the Third Shift staff to take and there was 100% participation! Mr. Clendening also started to instruct the shift on the use of the two different restraint chairs that are used in the jail, since Randy’s a squad leader on the Jail’s CERT team. These trainings have enabled the staff to be better prepared and qualified to handle emergencies that may occur in the Jail, by providing faster care and treatment to injured parties. Mr. Clendening’s outstanding characteristics are attributes that have not gone unnoticed by his peers. The nomination form described him as dedicated, committed and compassionate. “Randy shows dedication to his job; he shows commitment to making his working environment better and he has compassion for the Jail and staff with whom he works.” We are grateful to Mr. Randy Clendening, as he exudes a high standard of customer service, excellence and respect to the employee and residents of Franklin County.
