Correctional Officers and Employees Week Honors Jail Staff

Franklin County Commissioners recently declared the week of May 13-19 to be Correctional Officers and Employees Week in Franklin County in honor of the men and women whose diligence and professionalism keep Franklin County and its citizens safe.

May 23, 2018 – Chambersburg, PA Franklin County Commissioners recently declared the week of May 13-19 to be Correctional Officers and Employees Week in Franklin County in honor of the men and women whose diligence and professionalism keep Franklin County and its citizens safe. Correctional officers and employees offer work and other self-improvement opportunities to assist incarcerated individuals in becoming law-abiding citizens by providing them with direction, hope, and a new focus while preparing them for reentry and life outside of corrections.

“Corrections officers and employees help people during the toughest times in their lives. Your work not only helps these individuals, but our entire community, and it is greatly appreciated,” said Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller.

Commissioner Bob Thomas, Chairman of the Franklin County Prison Board, said, “Corrections isn’t an easy job. We are proud of the care and attention you give to the people in our jail.”

“We are very impressed with the institution and in what you do,” added Commissioner Bob Ziobrowski.

The Franklin County Jail held a celebration and service on Wednesday, May 16th. Warden Bill Bechtold introduced former County Administrator, and former correctional officer, John Hart who gave a keynote address to an audience of correctional officers, jail staff and supporters. “What you do does matter. Your work is critical to the operation of the facility and the county,” said Mr. Hart.

Commissioner Keller presented the award for Correctional Worker of the Year to Heather Franzoni. The award for Correctional Officer of the Year was presented by Commissioner Ziobrowski to Robert Fink. Both awardees were selected by a staff vote.

Major Douglas Burget ended the celebration with words of gratitude for the corrections officers and staff, “Professionalism is about helping each other and teaching each other so that we all learn. It’s a collective effort and we are grateful to you for it.”
