Informational Open House Held for Court Facility Improvement Project

Commissioners Welcome Public Feedback

January 11, 2018 – Chambersburg, PA – During the first Court Facility Improvement Project Open House, the Commissioners welcomed about 30 attendees who came for information as well as to ask questions and provide feedback about the proposed project. Jody Driggs of Silling Architects and Stuart Christenson from Noelker and Hull Associates were also present, fielding questions on design and layout.

Last week, the Franklin County Commissioners heard a public presentation on the project. The proposal was well received as a promising solution to escalating courthouse security issues, fragmented court-related offices, and inadequate space. It was noted that the need for facility improvements was justified in 2009 by independent studies, but a downturned economy put projects on hold. Since that time, the county population has continued to grow and facility needs have grown along with it.

As this new court facility improvement project is considered, the Commissioners are welcoming questions and feedback. Two Open Houses have been scheduled for the public to offer their comments and view artist renderings of the proposed new courthouse, floor block diagrams, operational efficiencies scenarios and cost and funding options. Some of the more common concerns brought to the first Open House include questions about parking, keeping the Old Courthouse intact, and project funding.

Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller thanked everyone for coming out. “It was a good Open House and we value all the interest and input.”

A second Court Facility Improvement Project Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, January 16th between 4:30pm and 7pm at the Franklin County Administration Annex, 218 North Second Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
