Bid Awarded for Mock-up Courtroom Construction

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved a bid for the judicial center courtroom mock-ups as part of the process to finalize designs for the Court Facility Improvement Project.

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved a bid for the judicial center courtroom mock-ups as part of the process to finalize designs for the Court Facility Improvement Project.

The bid is for three, full-scale, plywood mock-up courtrooms to be constructed in the warehouse space at 340 North Grant Street. The replica courtrooms ensure that lines of sight, traffic flow and key courtroom elements are properly placed prior to final construction.

“This is a best practice for judicial centers. It ensures exact measurements and leads to less changes, increased cost efficiency, and successful results,” said Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller at Thursday’s Board of Commissioners meeting.

The bid was awarded to GRC General Contractor, Inc. of Zullinger, PA in the amount of $59,902.00, and is contingent upon architect and solicitor review.

“Measure twice, cut once,” commented Commissioner Bob Thomas. “Once the mock-up is completed, courtroom officials and staff can determine if it works and, if necessary, amend the final design specs before construction,” he said.

Commissioner Bob Ziobrowski noted that constructing the mock-up courtrooms is a smart step that will help to keep the overall project on schedule and within budget.

Mock-up courtrooms will be completed by the end of the month.
