County to Increase Parking with Purchase of Elks Lodge

The Franklin County Commissioners entered into a sales agreement for the purchase of the Elks Lodge in Chambersburg to be used as satellite parking for court related offices.

The Franklin County Commissioners entered into a sales agreement for the purchase of the Elks Lodge in Chambersburg. The property is located across from the courthouse complex at 168 Lincoln Way East and complements the County’s current facility projects as satellite parking for court related offices.

“The addition of the Elks property will help answer the need for more parking within walking distance to the courthouse,” stated Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller.

Approximately 150 courthouse parking stalls will be lost due to upcoming demolition and construction for a new court facility. County officials have been working to mitigate the issue for both visitors to court related offices as well as county employees.

The Elks Lodge building will be demolished after expiration of a 6 month lease. The lot will then be reconfigured to add around 100 additional parking spaces.

The agreement for the Elks property is proposed at a purchase price of $745,000, contingent upon ratification by Elks Lodge membership and satisfactory County due diligence review of the property, and is part of the overall Court Facility Improvement Project budget.

The Court Facility Improvement Project schedule remains on time, with demolition set to begin in November on the first block of Main Street. For more information, please visit www.franklincountypa.gov or e-mail: facilityprojectinfo@franklincountypa.gov.
