Construction Resumes on Court Facility Improvement Project Sites

On March 20, 2020, in response to an order from Pennsylvania Governor Wolf, Franklin County Court Facility Improvement Project construction was put on hold. After discussions with the Governor’s office, it has been determined that the County's Court Facility Improvement Project is not subject to the Governor's order and construction is set to resume today.

“The Court Facility Improvement Project is vital to the safety and security of County residents and employees and is considered critical construction,” said Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller.

“These facilities will hold court and county business such as Children, Youth and Family hearings, criminal court hearings, including prosecution and defense, and many other offices which provide functions essential and life sustaining for the citizenry,” said Project Manager John Hart.

Facility project sites are “low risk” for spreading COVID-19, but crews will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Pennsylvania Department of Health guidelines for mitigating the risk of COVID-19 transmission. 

The overall project budget remains at $67.8 million. Bonds for the project were issued in March 2018 and deposited into a Court Facility Improvement Project construction account which is separate and distinct from the County’s operating budget.

Once construction resumes, project timelines will be updated.
