Waynesboro Police Department Detective Hired As Senior Assistant Prosecutor

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (February 28, 2022) — The Franklin County District Attorney’s Office is extraordinarily pleased to announce that Detective Travis Carbaugh from the Waynesboro Police Department has been appointed as a Senior Assistant District Attorney.

Carbaugh has been a law enforcement officer in Franklin County for approximately 18 years, with all of his service occurring while employed at the Waynesboro Police Department. He first served in the role of patrolman and later as a school resource officer, and was recognized as Police Officer of the Year in 2015.

Carbaugh has been assigned duties as the department’s sole detective for the past 10 years. While employed full-time as a law enforcement officer, he attended Widener University School of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor in 2017.

District Attorney Matt Fogal has worked with Carbaugh for all of his 18 years as a law enforcement officer, and they worked together most closely during recent grand jury investigations related to overdose deaths and fentanyl trafficking.

“I know from up-close experience that Travis is an exceptional public servant and he is simply transitioning from one law enforcement role to another,” said Fogal. “He has selflessly dedicated his professional life to this community, and I could not be more uniquely proud to have a police officer join the office as a prosecutor. Those of us as brothers and sisters in law enforcement adhere to a spirit of ‘One Team, One Fight,’ and the experience Travis brings to the District Attorney’s office will be a force multiplier in advancing the shared nature of our commitment and goals.”
