Veterans Affairs
March 01, 2024
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Due to overwhelming demand, the Franklin County Office of Veterans Affairs has expanded its Eighth Annual Golf Tournament on Aug. 30 at Penn National Golf Club, Fayetteville, to now include an afternoon flight for 100 additional golfers.
“This tournament consistently sells out year after year. Thanks to the team at Penn National, we’re now able to accommodate 100 more players who might not otherwise have had the opportunity to participate,” said Franklin County Veterans Affairs Director Justin Slep. “By adding another flight, we’re also able to increase the financial impact we’ll have on services and programs for our local veterans.”
Based on availability, golfers can choose their preferred course for an 8 a.m. shotgun start or play Iron Forge at approximately 1:30 p.m. The tournament will feature three winning teams – one from Founders and two from Iron Forge. Each member of those winning teams will receive a voucher for a seven-night resort stay for two.
New this year is a $50,000 hole-in-one contest. Additionally, winners of the Closest to the Pin, Straightest Drive and Longest Drive contests from each flight will receive a voucher for a five-day, four-night cruise for two.
Registration is $520 per foursome and includes greens fees, carts, lunch, on-course refreshments and an appreciation gift for each golfer. The tournament will also include in-game contests, raffles, networking opportunities and more. Teams golfing in the morning will receive a light breakfast before the tournament while afternoon teams will be offered grab-and-go snacks at the conclusion of the outing.
Registration for the morning flights will begin at 6:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Lunch and an awards presentation will conclude the day for teams playing in the morning. Registration for the afternoon flight will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon and a shotgun start at approximately 1:30 p.m. Awards will be handed out at the end of the afternoon round.
All proceeds from the golf tournament benefit the Franklin County Veterans Affairs Outreach Fund, which supports a variety of programs, including Operation Save-a-Vet Save-a-Pet, Operation Rucks to Reins, Franklin County MilitaryShare, Franklin County Veterans Affairs Outdoor Coalition, a free medical shuttle service, and the annual We Salute You Scholarship. The 2023 tournament featured an event-high, sold-out slate of 260 golfers and raised a record $69,042.
