May 01, 2024
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin County Commissioners are pleased to announce the county is now accepting applications for the 2024 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The program is administered by the Franklin County Planning Department.
CDBG funding is allocated through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), on behalf of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to benefit non-entitlement municipalities and community organizations within Franklin County. Chambersburg and Waynesboro boroughs are the two entitlement municipalities in Franklin County; as such, they receive and administer their own CDBG funds for projects within their municipal boundaries. At least 70% of funds received by the county must be used for activities that benefit low- and moderate-income individuals.
Applications as well as additional information on the CDBG program are available by visiting the Franklin County Planning Department webpage, https://bit.ly/FCPlanning, or by contacting the Planning Department at 717-261-3855 or planning@franklincountypa.gov. All applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. July 31.
The Planning Department will discuss the county’s FY2024 CDBG application during a series of upcoming citizen participation meetings:
- June 5, 1 p.m., Franklin County Administration Building, 272 N. Second St., Chambersburg
- June 11, 10 a.m., Southampton Township Township municipal office, 705 Municipal Drive, Shippensburg
- June 13, 2 p.m., Greencastle Borough office, 60 N. Washington St., Greencastle
The county will hold a final citizen participation meeting in September prior to DCED’s application submission deadline. Residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about the program and to give oral testimony on the county’s needs and the program as a whole. Written comments will also be accepted. Residents who are unable to attend a hearing in person can attend virtually by contacting the Planning Department at least three business days prior to the hearing.
