Elected Officials
Franklin County is governed by a board of three county commissioners elected every four years. The Board of Commissioners is vested with policy-making authority to provide certain local services and facilities on a county-wide basis.
In Franklin County, voters also elect eight other elected officials who oversee a variety of county government functions as well as judges of the Common Pleas Court and magisterial district judges.
Clerk of Courts
Handles marriage licenses, birth/death certificates and divorce decrees.
Clerk of Orphans’ Court
Handles marriage licenses, birth/death certificates and divorce decrees.
Commissioners
Oversees core functions of county government such as fiscal operations, human resources, taxes, voting, emergency services, planning and information technology, all while representing the best interests of Franklin County citizens.
Controller
Responsible for all tax reporting as well as payment of all county invoices
Coroner
Investigates sudden and unexpected deaths
Courts
Courts of Common Pleas for Pennsylvania’s 39th Judicial District.
District Attorney
Courts of Common Pleas for Serves as the chief law enforcement officer of the county39th Judicial District.
Prothonotary
Files all civil documents, including divorces, child custody, protection from abuse (PFA) orders and judgements with the courts
Register & Recorder
Records all documents pertaining to land records, deeds, mortgages, etc. and handles the probate of estates for executors or administrators
Sheriff
Responsible for enforcement of laws throughout the county as well as serving warrants and other legal documents, providing court security and transportation of prisoners.
Treasurer
Acts as the primary agent on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the sale of certain licenses and permits.
