The Franklin County Commissioners proudly present the Employee of the Month award to Mr. James Powell. Mr. Powell has been employed with Franklin County Sheriff’s Office since November of 2012. He currently serves in a casual status as a Security Guard.

The selection for the February 2020 Employee of the Month was determined from a total of eleven nominations. The nomination form asks what recent event or occurrence prompted you to select James and the answers stated:

“After leaving a meeting at the Admin Annex , I overheard a man who was in emotional distress and very angry. He was irate due to a meeting that had just taken place. I continued to a second meeting as the man headed downstairs. When I entered the lobby, Security Guard Powell had already assisted in de-escalating the situation with the man. The man had been asked to come back into the building for a quick chat. The man calmed down and even apologized for his loud voice and language.

Security Guard Powell continuously shows outstanding job performance and takes on responsibility while performing his normal duties. He goes above and beyond. You never see Security Guard Powell without a smile on his face or a kind word to say to County Employees. He continues to demonstrate a positive attitude, even in the worst situations.

Security Guard Powell has been an asset to the County of Franklin since 2012, after his retirement from Washington County Sheriff’s Department in Maryland. His dedication and professionalism are top notch. We are fortunate to have staff with the experience and who are willing to go that extra mile, such as Mr. Powell has done. Those types of situations are some of the hardest and most dangerous to handle. The situation could have easily turned badly, but because of quick thinking, it ended without further issues. You are applauded for your honor and service.”

Mr. Powell’s outstanding characteristics are attributes that have not gone unnoticed by his peers. The nomination form describes him as being professional, dedicated, and responsible.

We are grateful to Mr. James Powell as he exudes a high standard of customer service, excellence, and respect to the employees and residents of Franklin County.
