Franklin County Department of Veteran Affairs is dedicated to serving the needs of area veterans and their families through benefit coordination, outreach, and advocacy.

“We’re grateful to the local community for their support of Franklin County veterans,” said Department of Veterans Affairs Director Justin Slep.

The 4th Annual Veterans Expo, held on November 1st, had over 200 veterans in attendance. With a 51% increase in veteran attendance over 2017’s expo and 84 vendors participating, it was the best attended expo to date.

The amount of donations for the Expo was also unprecedented this year:

  • The Chambersburg Mall donated event space
  • Greg Hurst of Holy Smokehouse BBQ donated lunch for all of the veterans, their spouses and dependents, and the vendors
  • Lucas Heinbaugh, the manager of the Norland Avenue Starbucks, donated door prizes and coffee for the entire event
  • Talik Patel of Dunkin’ Donuts, 1479 Lincoln Way E, Chambersburg, donated doughnuts
  • The Chambersburg Choristers, under the direction of Beth Stahl, generously donated their time to perform for the Veterans during lunch
  • The Chambersburg Area Senior High School NJROTC Cadets assisted with event set up and tear down

Other recent generous donations:

  •  Keystone RV Center donated $6,270 to Operation Save-A-Vet, Save-A-Pet
  •  Ludwick Eye Center hosted the We Salute Our Heroes festival on September 8th and donated $150.00 from proceeds

“I’d like to congratulate Justin and his Veterans Affairs team for another successful Veterans Expo as well as all of the local businesses that have supported and sponsored programs dedicated to helping Franklin County veterans,” said Franklin County Commissioner and Chairman Dave Keller.
