Tips On Registering to Vote, Updating Voter Information

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvanians have until Oct. 21 to register to vote or make changes to their voter registration information ahead of the state’s Nov. 5 Presidential Election. 

Qualifications to Register to Vote in Pennsylvania 

To register to vote in Pennsylvania, you must: 

• Be at least 18 years of age on or before the day of the election. 
• Be a citizen of the United States for at least one month before the election.
• Be a resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which you want to register to vote for at least 30 days before the election. 

Registering to Vote for the First Time or Updating a Voter’s Information

• Submit an application online at www.pavoterservices.pa.gov. 
• Obtain a paper voter registration application from a candidate, political party or other federal, state or municipal office. 
• Request a paper voter registration application from the Franklin County Voter Registration Office located at 272 N. Second St., Chambersburg, or by calling 717-261-3886. 
• Download a voter registration application from the Department of State’s website, www.vote.pa.gov, or the Franklin County website, www.franklincountypa.gov.
• Apply at a Department of Transportation photo license center when updating a driver’s license. 
• Apply at a government agency: 

o State offices that provide public assistance and services to persons with disabilities 

o Armed forces recruitment centers 

o Clerk of Courts office 

o Area Agencies on Aging 

o County Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities offices 

o Centers for Independent Living 

Once an application is processed, voters will receive a voter registration card in the mail noting the changes they have made along with the location of their polling place. Applications received or postmarked after Oct. 21 will be processed for the Municipal Primary in May 2025. 

First-time voters will be asked to show ID the first they vote. Voters who have made any updates to their registration may be asked to show ID following the update. This is the only time voters will be asked to show ID. For a list of approved forms of ID, visit the Department of State website, www.vote.pa.gov.

Offices on the November Presidential Election ballot include U.S. president, U.S. senator, state attorney general, state auditor general, state treasurer, representative in Congress, senator in the General Assembly, and representative in the General Assembly. 

Some voters in Chambersburg Borough may be voting in new precincts in the November election. These changes stem from the borough’s recent reapportionment of its ward boundaries to reflect census data on the borough’s current population. Voters who are impacted and moved to other districts will receive a new voter registration card in the mail as well as a notice notifying them of their new polling location. The Borough of Chambersburg will also include information on this redistricting project in its October utility bill mailing. 

Additionally, the Hamilton 2 polling place is now at the Christian Life Church at 1400 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg. Voters in the Metal 2 precinct will now vote at Metal Township Fire and Ambulance located at 10862 Path Valley Road, Fannettsburg. 

Finally, voters in the Greene 4 precinct will be voting at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 44 E. Main St., Fayetteville, for the Nov. 5 election. The county anticipates voting will return to the Fayetteville Fire Hall in 2025. 

Voters affected by a change in voting precincts will receive a new voter registration card in the mail before the election. Voters who are voting in a new precinct for the first time may be asked to show ID at their new polling location; this is the only time voters will be asked to show ID.
