Funding Awarded to Aid Law Enforcement’s COVID-19 Response

Franklin County was recently awarded $103,947 in Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Relief (CESR) grant funding by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD). The federal funding supports local law enforcement in the prevention of, preparation for, and response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We appreciate the continued support of PCCD, and we are grateful to Congressman John Joyce, Senators Pat Toomey and Bob Casey, and President Donald Trump for making the funding for this grant available to PCCD through the CARES Act,” said Dave Keller, Commissioner Chairman and Co-chair of the Criminal Justice Advisory Board.

The Franklin County Criminal Justice Advisory Board (CJAB) identified the critical needs of law enforcement and criminal justice services related to the pandemic and endorsed the CESR grant application. Led by President Judge Shawn D. Meyers, the Criminal Justice Advisory Board collaboratively addresses the immediate and future needs of the county by researching, planning, and recommending solutions that integrate and prioritize the best approaches to criminal justice policies and program planning.

The County submitted a competitive grant application in early June. A statement of award was received this week which allots $15,600 for Juvenile Probation personal protective equipment (PPE) and $88,347 to the Franklin County Jail for PPE and cleaning equipment to help prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
