Commissioners Name Basalik New Franklin County Archives Director
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin County Commissioners are pleased to welcome Stefanie Basalik as the county’s new archives and records management director. Basalik replaces Rikki Chesley, who stepped down from the role earlier this year.
In this role, Basalik will oversee the records management of all county departments, including the proper preservation of records and managing an appropriate disposal system, under the jurisdiction of the commissioners, elected officials and the court. She will also lead the day-to-day operations of the county’s archives department, which manages and catalogs critical county records for internal operations as well as for public use.
Basalik has more than a decade of experience in a variety of roles, including as a museum technician with the Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site and as a curator with the Carroll County (Maryland) Farm Museum. She also served as executive director of the Washington County (Maryland) Historical Society and Museum and executive director of the Frederick County (Maryland) Historical Society. As an adjunct professor, Basalik taught several history courses at both the University of Maryland Global Campus and Frederick Community College. From January 2022 to June 2023, she served as director of operations and advancement at the Montessori Academy of Chambersburg, and most recently worked as a personal stylist with online clothing retailer cabi.
Basalik holds a Bachelor’s in history and political science from Bridgewater College, a Master’s in Arts and History from James Madison University and a Ph.D. in American studies from Penn State University.
“Stefanie’s background and professional experience will be a great asset and resource for our staff as well as for our residents who utilize the Franklin County Archives and Records Management Department,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “We are pleased to welcome her to our county team and look forward to our next chapter under her guidance and leadership.”
Basalik and her husband, Shaun, live in Greencastle and are the parents of two teenage children.
