$1M State Grant to Fund Therapy Center for Special Needs Children

Franklin County partnered with the Franklin County Redevelopment Authority in a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant application, awarded to fund the construction of Leg Up Farm Franklin County.

Franklin County partnered with the Franklin County Redevelopment Authority (FCRDA) in a $1M Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant application, awarded to fund the construction of Leg Up Farm Franklin County. The County is acting as fiscal agent for the RACP grant—a state grant awarded to projects focusing on economic, civic, recreational and historical improvement.

Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller said, “We are happy to provide support to a project that enhances both the economic development and the quality of life in Franklin County.”

Based in York County, Leg Up Farm is a non-profit therapy center which gives special needs children the opportunity to reach their full potential through individual and comprehensive treatment. The proposed Franklin County facility will be located on 18 acres in Fayetteville and includes a pediatric therapy center with an on-site school.

FCRDA Executive Director Mike Ross stated at Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting, “Franklin County’s support of the Leg Up Farm project through the RACP grant has been critical to the project moving forward.” He believes that the project has the opportunity to be transformative for families of special needs children and stated, “This project will change the quality of life for those families.” He thanked the Commissioners for their continued support.

Commissioner Bob Thomas noted that this project is an example of the positive impact that business and industry can have on childhood education by providing a facility to deliver specialized pediatric services. Commissioner Ziobrowski believes that the project, which is expected to be fully operational by fall 2020, will be a great benefit to many Franklin County families.

“Projects like this one are conducive to people moving here, staying here, and calling Franklin County home,” said Mr. Ross.
