Franklin County Dispatcher Receives Clinical Save Award
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners is pleased to recognize Dispatcher Thomas Cook for receiving a Clinical Save Award from the Emergency Health Services Federation.
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners is pleased to recognize Thomas Cook, a Telecommunicator with the Franklin County Department of Emergency Services 9-1-1 Center, for receiving a Clinical Save Award from the Emergency Health Services Federation.
“This award is well deserved. We thank Mr. Cook for his dedication to the wellbeing of our residents,” said Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller.
On May 24, 2018, Mr. Cook answered a 9-1-1 call from the Waynesboro Area. The caller advised that a male subject was not breathing and was unresponsive. Dispatcher Cook collected the required information and provided thorough CPR instructions. The patient was transported to the hospital. The following day a family member of the patient called and advised that the patient had survived and expressed their appreciation for Mr. Cook’s assistance.
Mr. Cook has been employed at the Franklin County Department of Emergency Services since 2017. He has previous experience as a dispatcher with the Blair County Department of Emergency Services, and has been dispatching for 5 years. He is also a registered EMT and a Pennsylvania Certified Coroner.
Upon receiving his award, Mr. Cook stated, “Our shift works as a team. This isn’t my award—this is my shift’s award.” Commissioner Thomas thanked the “wonderful team” at the Franklin County Emergency Services for their dedication.
The Emergency Health Services Federation is a nonprofit organization granted by the Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as a Regional EMS Council to develop, maintain, and improve the EMS system for a specific geographical area. They serve as the Regional EMS Council for the eight counties of South Central Pennsylvania: Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York.
