Franklin County Commissioners Appoint New Chief Public Defender

The Franklin County Commissioners are pleased to announce the appointment of Casey S. Bogner, Esq. as Franklin County Chief Public Defender, effective August 22, 2018.

Ms. Bogner was hired as an Assistant Public Defender in December 2014 and became First Assistant the following year. She has been in the role of Interim Chief Public Defender since early March.

“I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity. I'm looking forward to taking on this role and identifying the issues that affect our community in order to most effectively represent our clients and provide them with services to better their futures,” said Ms. Bogner.

The Chief Public Defender position is responsible for overseeing 11 staff in representing about 1,800 adult and juvenile criminal cases annually.

“The Chief Public Defender position is a key component to the quality of our justice system, especially for those residents who are unable to afford legal representation,” said Commissioner and Chairman Dave Keller. “Casey’s education and experience is well suited for the role.”

Prior to her work in Franklin County, Ms. Bogner completed an externship with the Centre County District Attorney’s Office. Ms. Bogner graduated cum laude from Penn State Dickinson School of Law. She holds an undergraduate degree from Colorado State University in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology and Criminal Justice and minor in Diversity Law.

 “Casey is not just a qualified attorney, she is a caring and passionate individual,” stated Commissioner Bob Thomas.
