State Appoints Justin Slep to Veterans Services Advisory Committee
The Joint State Government Commission of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth appointed Justin Slep, Director of Franklin County Office of Veterans Affairs, to the newly established Advisory Committee on the Coordination of Veterans Services.
The Joint State Government Commission of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth appointed Justin Slep, Director of the Franklin County Office of Veterans Affairs, to the newly established Advisory Committee on the Coordination of Veterans Services.
“Veterans and their families are my top priority and responsibility,” said Slep. “My goal is to help streamline the coordination of veterans’ services, making the process less of a burden for veterans and their loved ones in Franklin County and across the Commonwealth,” he added.
A Marine combat veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, Slep began working as the Director of Franklin County Veterans Affairs in 2014. Since then, he has established numerous programs such as Operation Save-A-Vet, Save-A-Pet and Operation REACH, as well as annual events including the Veterans’ Expo and Veterans Affairs Golf Tournament fundraiser, among others. His office recently partnered with a local dentist to offer a free monthly dental clinic to veterans without insurance.
“Justin’s awareness of veterans’ needs, as well as of the services available to them, has led him to implement innovative programs in Franklin County while actively engaging the community to help better serve our local veterans. His appointment to this committee will be a benefit to veterans state-wide,” said Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller.
Because Pennsylvania is home to the fourth largest veteran population in the United States, the PA Senate passed a resolution (SR170) last October creating an advisory committee to aid in reviewing and analyzing laws, regulations, policies, and procedures for Pennsylvania, and other states, regarding the coordination of federal, state, and local services for veterans. The committee will issue its recommendations within 12 months.
