Commissioners Draw Attention To Sexual Assault Awareness
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin County Commissioners have proclaimed April 2022 to be Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Franklin County and are calling upon residents and local agencies to do their part to prevent sexual violence wherever it occurs.
Sexual Assasult Awareness Month draws attention to the prevalence of sexual assault, abuse and harrassment and highlights how individuals and communities can prevent these behaviors. While these types of sexual violence can occur anywhere, the 2022 Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign focuses on online sexual abuse.
As technology has evolved and greatly expanded humans’ ability to connect to others, cyberstalking, trolling, sextortion and a host of other forms of digital and image-based sexual abuse have become realities. To combat online sexual violence during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, online users are being asked to practice digital consent, to step in when they witness harmful content or behaviors, and to promote online communities that are inclusive, safe and respectful toward everyone.
By recognizing April as Sexual Assasult Awareness Month, the Franklin County Commissioners are asking all residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to take a proactive approach to creating and maintaining safe online spaces free from sexual violence.
