Franklin County Honors Emergency Medical Services

The Franklin County Commissioners presented a proclamation recognizing Emergency Medical Services Week to members of the Chambersburg Fire Department and Penn State Health Life Lion Emergency Medical Services during the commissioners’ May 11 meeting.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin County Commissioners have proclaimed May 15-21, 2022 to be Emergency Medical Services Week in Franklin County and are encouraging all residents to recognize the vital role the emergency medical services (EMS) network plays in safeguarding Franklin County communities.

The EMS system has evolved over time and today consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers.

These individuals – whether career or volunteer – undergo thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills. They fill a gap by providing important, out-of-hospital care, including preventative medicine and follow-up care. This access to emergency care can dramatically improve a patient’s survival rate when experiencing a sudden illness or injury.

“We are grateful for the emergency medical teams who are ready and willing to offer lifesaving care to Franklin County residents in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year,” said Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller. “These men and women are unsung heroes whose dedication and sacrifice can truly make a difference between life and death in the lives of our citizens.”

By recognizing Emergency Medical Services Week, the commissioners are urging residents to show their appreciation for the contributions these individuals perform in ensuring the health, safety and well-being of everyone who lives in, works in or visits Franklin County.
