Waynesboro Man Sentenced On Methamphetamine, Firearms Charges

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Johnathan Fisher, age 40, of Waynesboro was sentenced on Aug. 29 to a term of 151 months imprisonment by United States District Court Judge Christopher C. Conner for methamphetamine trafficking and weapons offenses.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the indictment alleges that Fisher possessed with the intent to distribute over 50 grams of actual methamphetamine on May 7, 2020, in Waynesboro. The indictment also alleges that Fisher possessed a Remington .380 handgun and a Stevens 12 gauge shotgun at a time that he knew that his previous criminal convictions prohibited him from possessing a firearm.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Waynesboro Police Department, and the Franklin County Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jaime M. Keating is prosecuting the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.

“Since taking office as District Attorney, I have made sure to foster and sustain an ongoing partnership with our close allies at the FBI and Department of Justice (DoJ),” said Franklin County District Attorney Matt Fogal. “For the entirety of my tenure as District Attorney, we have assigned detectives in both a part-time and full-time basis to both the Safe Streets Initiative and the Joint Terrorism Task Force, and I continue to directly serve as a member of the executive board of the Joint Terrorism Task Force. These partnerships with our very professional and dedicated colleagues are unwavering and will continue, as they serve the local community as a force multiplier and truly assist in our primary mission to keep all of our citizens safe and secure.

“Recent unwarranted, manipulative and disgusting criticism of our law enforcement partners with the FBI and DoJ should be wholly dismissed and rejected,” said Fogal. “The actual truth is that our ongoing relationship(s) with the law enforcement personnel of the FBI has greatly benefited the citizens of Franklin County, and those patriotic public servants should be sincerely thanked rather than verbally attacked or threatened. We are extraordinarily proud to work alongside these brave men and women.
