Franklin County Salutes EMS Personnel

Emergency Medical Services Week 2023

Members of Franklin County’s EMS system joined the Franklin County Commissioners for a proclamation presentation declaring May 21-27, 2023, to be Emergency Medical Services Week in Franklin County during the commissioners’ May 24 public board meeting.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin County Commissioners have proclaimed May 21-27, 2023, to be Emergency Medical Services Week in Franklin County and are encouraging all residents to recognize the vital role members of the emergency medical services (EMS) network play in safeguarding Franklin County communities.

The EMS system consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers. These individuals – whether career or volunteer – undergo thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills. They fill a gap by providing important, out-of-hospital care, including preventative medicine and follow-up care.

“Our EMS teams provide access to emergency care that can dramatically improve a patient’s chances of survival when he or she experiences a sudden illness or injury,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dave Keller. “Franklin County residents are truly indebted to the services and care they provide.”

By recognizing Emergency Medical Services Week, the commissioners are urging residents to show their appreciation for the contributions these individuals perform in ensuring the health, safety and well-being of everyone who lives in, works in or visits Franklin County.
