Commissioners Recognize Public Library Week

Franklin County Public Library Week 2024

The Franklin County Commissioners presented staff from the Franklin County Library System with a proclamation declaring April 7-13, 2024, to be Franklin County Public Library Week during the commissioners’ April 3 public board meeting.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin County Commissioners have declared April 7-13, 2024, to be Franklin County Public Library Week and are urging residents to connect with their local libraries to take advantage of the services and resources these institutions offer in their communities.

Franklin County is home to seven public libraries, six of which are part of the Franklin County Library System. These institutions are among more than 117,000 libraries across the U.S., including public libraries, school libraries, academic libraries and specialty libraries that pertain to specific professions.

“Franklin County is fortunate to have these quality institutions in our communities along with dedicated staff who are committed to providing the resources and services that benefit our residents and create lifelong learners,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst.

Franklin County libraries allow patrons to borrow books in a traditional format, but also now offer e-books, audiobooks and DVDs to better serve residents. Libraries also provide access to computers, the internet and other digital technology as well as personal enrichment activities and classes on a wide range of topics for a variety of audiences and ages. Additionally, bookmobiles bring books and other materials directly to consumers.

The Franklin County Library System continues to focus on partnership and growth. Staff are working to enhance outreach efforts in underserved communities and offer cultural programs in conjunction with other organizations. They also continue to host events and seminars focused on building civility and encourage the public to use libraries as community, civic and cultural centers.

By observing Franklin County Public Library Week, the commissioners encourage residents to visit area libraries to explore life-long learning opportunities.
